A man arrested in connection with the murder of Ashling Murphy has been released without charge and is no longer a speculate.
The male, aged in his 40s, had been arrested by gardai shortly after the 23-year-old’s death and was being held in Tullamore Garda stop.
He was released from custody late on Thursday night after hours of questioning.
Gardai said: “This male has been deleted from Garda enquiries and is no longer a speculate.”
Ashling was jogging along the canal bank in Tullamore when she was randomly attacked and killed in general daylight at 4pm on Wednesday, January 12.
A statement from gardai said: “The male who was arrested and detained by An Garda Síochána investigating this fatal assault has now been released from this detention.
“This male has been deleted from Garda enquiries and is no longer a speculate.
“An Garda Siochana continue to probe this fatal assault that occurred at approximately 4pm on Wednesday, 12th January, 2022, along the canal bank at Cappincur, Tullamore, County Offaly.
“An Garda Siochana continue to popularity for any information on a Falcon Storm mountain bike with straight handlebars and distinctive yellow/ green front forks.
“Gardai continue to popularity for any person with any information on this fatal assault, who may not already have spoken to investigators, to come forward with that information.
